What Is the Easiest Way to Start Treating Your Allergies?
This article is a transcript.
What's the easiest way to start treating your allergies? I'm Dr. Manan Shah, I'm an ENT and allergists at Wyndly Health. The first thing I usually tell patients is to try some of the conservative therapies, the best ones of these are the second generation antihistamines, like Claritin, Zyrtec, Allegra.
And you can use the generics of these. These are going to be better than Benadryl, which is going to make you pretty drowsy. Sometimes patients will forget to use the nasal sprays that they have available to them. And these are like Flonase and Nasonex. These are also going to work really well. And then you may want to use a saltwater rinse or mist just to get a little bit of the allergens out.
If these don't work, you may want to talk to your doctor about prescription allergy medications like Azelastine or Montelukast. And lastly, if your allergies are really bothering you, you may want to just get allergy tested and consider immunotherapy. If you have any questions, we'd love to work with you.
